Handful

  • Yesterday on the way home from school Mia told me she was sad that I hit her hand when she bit me. In shock, I asked when did I hit her, and when did she bite me?? She said, "You hit my hand today because I bit you." I said, "Mia, you didn't bite me, and I definitely didn't hit you." She yelled, "Yes you did! And I'm so sad."
  • I knew she was telling me one of the many stories her active little imagination has begun to fabricate. Definitely a creative one, that girl. So I tried to change the subject from the biting/hitting story by asking her what she had for lunch. Her reply? Poop. I said, "Really. That sounds good. What color was it?" She said, "Pink." I said, "Oh, how pretty! What does poop taste like?" She replied, "Syrup. We got it at McDonald's." I told her I hadn't been to McDonald's in awhile, but I'd be sure to look for it on the menu next time I stopped in. I asked her if she wanted poop again for dinner or if pizza would be okay. She preferred the pizza.
  • Tonight Mia did not want to go to bed. She wanted to stay up and play her Elmo game on the computer. She ended up having a complete meltdown and SCREAMED for 30 minutes. I finally just put her in her bed and left her in there because my ears were hurting. When I left she started screaming, "No Mommy! No Mommy! No Mommy!" When I did not respond that turned into, "Somebody help me! Somebody help me!!!" This girl has some serious pipes on her. I'm sure the police will be called on us one day.
  • As you may have guessed from Mia's comments about her lunchtime cuisine, Mia and her school friends are completely obsessed with words like booty, poop, doody, butt, etc. I had thought it was pretty harmless until Carol reported that she and Mia were out the other day and ran into Carol's ex-boss, Mr. Sexton. Carol asked Mia if she remembered him. My little angel replied, "Yes. Hi butt-crack."

Mia's 3rd Birthday

Mia woke up yesterday at 5:30 a.m. Her first words to Mike and I as we rushed into her room were, "Mommy, I throwed up." Yes, that's how our girl spent the morning of her 3rd birthday. We cleaned her up and I put her in bed with me, but not too much later she threw up in my bed as well. Fortunately a couple hours later she was fine, so her party was on.

At about 3, Mike's family and some of our friends came over to celebrate with us. It was a beautiful day so we set up the bar on the deck and the kids were able to play outside while the grown-ups watched the UK game. Not too long into the party Mia stepped on a massive splinter. It was in so deeply her skin was puckered. We debated taking her to the urgent care center, but ultimately decided to put antibacterial ointment on it and see how she did. That seemed like a great time to open presents and have cake, so she was running around again in no time!

Jimi, Jaime, Chloe (Mia's idol) and James stayed long after everyone left. The kids played so well together! At one point Mia and Chloe said they were ready to put their pjs on, so I got nightgowns for them. The next thing we knew, it got very quiet. The "big people" went back to our bedroom to find all three kids snuggled up in bed, watching a movie. It was so cute! When Chloe learned she was going to have to head home she was so sad she cried. She wanted to stay the night with Mia. We decided we'll have a sleepover very soon.

Uncle Charlie took most of the birthday pictures. I took just a few at the end of the night, as well as a few videos. I'll post what I have now and hope for more later.

Happy Birthday Mia!

I can't believe this was us just three years ago. It seems like an eternity since that day, and yet it seems just like yesterday. I vividly remember my excitement as I lay in that bed, watching the clock in anticipation of the moment I would meet my little boy or girl. Charlie said I was glowing. I believe I was simply radiating all the joy I felt at becoming a mother. I could not wait to meet my baby. When Dr. Paul said it was a girl, I was completely overwhelmed with love and happiness for my little Mia. I have truly felt that exact same way every day since I met her. I love her more than anything I have ever known and will do my absolute best to make sure that she is confident in my love every day of her life. Happy Birthday my sweet, sweet girl.

Everyone Poops

At my work holiday party, we did a White Elephant gift exchange. Mike got stuck with a book entitled, "Everyone Poops". We jokingly said it would be perfect for Mia, and ironically, it has turned out to be one of her favorite books! Along the same lines, Mia's Papaw calls her Booty Butt Turtle and she gets so worked up over that name. She balls up her fists and shouts, "I am NOT a Booty Butt Turtle! I'm Jasmine!" She gets so worked up over it that we can't help ourselves and when she poops on the potty we'll say "Good job, Poopy Butt Turtle." At that point she doesn't care what we call her, as long as she gets her Skittles.

The other night we were trying to get her corralled into the bathtub. We were chasing her all over the house, pulling off a little of her clothing at a time while she giggled. When I finally got her pants off I started yelling "Look at that Poopy Butt Turtle!" She got mad and yelled her typical, "I am NOT a Poopy Butt Turtle! I'm Jasmine! Jasmine does NOT poop!" to which Mike and I replied in unison, "Everyone Poops!" She yelled back, "Everyone NOT poops! Princesseses do NOT poop." And I said, "Of course they do! What do you think Cinderella did after the ball? She came home and took a big poop." Mia stood there looking at us like we were nuts while Mike and I giggled like 2 year olds.

Mia this week

  • Mia told us yesterday that she has a baby in her belly. It's a girl and her name is Summer. She pulls up her shirt and talks to her.
  • She also told us she has brothers and sisters. Some of their names include Nami, Notti, Traji, Jreshem, etc.
  • She's at the age now where I can tease her and she gets the joke. Today she went poopy on the potty and came to me for a treat. I said to her very sweetly and seriously, "Just having me for your mommy is your most special treat." She laughed, throwing her arms around me and said, "No Mommy, you're not my special treat! I need Skittles!"
  • Mia loves to play games on the computer, especially impressive to us because we have a laptop with no mouse. She really likes the Sesame Street site.
  • Her ear is hurting her again. Not sure if it will mean another trip to the doc this week, but if so, it will be the specialist.

Scrambled eggs

My hot, young eggs are still in full bloom. They are ginormous and there are still plenty of them. She said, “You must be very uncomfortable.” Uh, yeah. I will have to go on the pill for the next month to calm things down and we’ll take another look when I start again. If all is well, we’ll do a very low dose of the shots, over a longer period of time to monitor more closely. She said, “Obviously no one told your eggs how old you really are.” ;-)

I’m thinking I may need to be an egg donor after this.
