Kim and Troy had their baby girl yesterday. I haven't talked to them myself yet, but I heard she was 7 pounds, 6 ounces and has dark curly hair. I also heard she had already nursed on both breasts and pooped twice by yesterday afternoon. What a good girl!
Congratulations Kim, Troy and big sister Murphy!!

Braxton Hicks
For the past two weeks or so I've had Braxton Hicks contractions. At first I thought the baby was just moving in some weird way that hurt, but when I mentioned it to a lady at work she said it sounded like BH. So I got online to research and sure enough, that's what they are. Most of the time I barely notice them, if I notice them at all. But other times they're strong enough to affect my breathing. I followed the advice I read online and have tried to stay more hydrated. That seems to have helped lessen the intensity. Last night I also noticed that the baby seems to have dropped a bit. I know the purpose of Braxton Hicks is to get things moving toward labor, so I wonder if the baby's lower position is a result of this?

Showerpalooza
Well, Showerpalooza has come and gone, and I cannot believe the love and generosity bestowed on us. Friday night Mom, Aunt Karen and Aunt Roni threw a shower for Missy and me here at my house. They came in while I was at work on Friday and decorated the house and it was simply beautiful. The decorations were brown and pink, since I don't know the sex of the Bean and Biscuit will be a girl. Aunt Karen outdid herself with all the centerpieces. You can tell the woman is a professional! The Halls, Hollkamps and Robbins were here and it was so wonderful to see everyone. At one point I almost teared up, so grateful for all the people who love us.
Saturday was the Wilson shower, again at my house. Sue, Aunt Pat, Aunt Marsha and Aunt Debbie were the hostesses with the mostesses. Again, the colors were brown and pink, but they put their own twist on things. The baby cakes were hilarious. There was a cake for each of us, each composed of two round cakes (one for the head, one for the body) in the shape of a baby. The diaper on one said Bean and the diaper on the other said Biscuit. When it came time to cut the cakes, Missy and I decided to behead them and we'll save the little heads to serve Biscuit and Bean on their first birthdays. Twisted, aren't we??!
Sunday was Missy's girlfriend shower hosted by Jennifer and Amy. They had a creative idea in that they bought a baby scrapbook and took pictures of each guest. We each decorated a page of the scrapbook and put our picture on the page. What a great idea!
Afterward Missy had to head home and I was so sad to see her go. I miss her so much and I love just hanging out with her, as if I get to see her all the time. But I was so happy to just have her near me, as we watched girlie movies and laid around with our bellies hanging out, watching our babies move. I love my sissy and it was so wonderful spending Showerpalooza with you. Thank you so much to all our wonderful family and friends who made the weekend so special for us. We love you!

Thankful
Every night before I go to bed, I say my prayers and thank God for Mike, the Bean, my family and my friends. But this year at Thanksgiving, I feel even more blessed than usual. I think it's my heightened awareness of family and how loved I really am. One of the things that has impacted my pregnancy the most is my mom's comment that she can't wait until I give birth to my baby, because then I'll know how much she loves me. I think about that statement every day, and it overwhelms my heart. I know how much I love this baby already, and when I think about how much more I'll love it when I can hold it and watch it grow, it gives me such a different perspective on how much mom and dad have always loved me. Don't get me wrong, I have always known how much I'm loved. It's in every action and word they've spoken all my life. But to see it from the viewpoint of a parent...well, I can't even put into words the joy and warmth and comfort that comes from knowing the depth of love they have for me. On Thanksgiving, I want my parents to know how much I have always felt their love and that it has been the defining source of inspiration for my life. I also want them to know that not only do I love them more than I could ever express, but that because of them, my little Bean will bask in the tradition of love and happiness they gave to me.
Klutz

Well, my 11 year streak ended immediately following Amy Willis' baby shower: I fell and sprained my ankle. The shower was a lot of fun and it was great to see Amy, but as we left, I stepped into a grass-filled hole and down I went. No one was around at the time, but my screams of pain sent Missy and Margo running to me. Luckily I managed to roll as I fell so I didn't land on the Bean, but to be safe we went to the hospital anyway and listened to the heartbeat. I refused the x-rays, since history tells me my ankles are never actually broken, and I didn't want to expose the baby unnecessarily. So I have been in an ace bandage and ankle brace since then. I would like to thank my father and my husband for jinxing me on Halloween with their discussion about how long it's been since I've been on crutches. Love ya! ;-)

3 a.m.
Well, it's 6 am and I've been up for 3 hours already. I woke up to do one of my many nighttime potty runs, and never went back to sleep. I keep obsessing about things. I've got a busy week at work, my car is in the shop, Christmas is quickly approaching, the baby will be here before I know it, and Showerpalooza is only a week and a half away. There is so much to get done, and I'm stressing about whether I have the time, energy and funds to get everything done in the time frame available.
The car situation is pissing me off. In my entire life, I've only had a car payment for 18 months. I realize that's not normal and that most people make payments on their cars. But when I was in the AF, I used my hazardous duty funds to pay off my car in 18 months. Then when I was in the accident that totaled it, I used those funds to buy the car I have now. I have had this car for 6 years and I would be happy to keep driving it for another 6, except now I'm driving 60 miles a day to and from work, and I have a baby on the way. I don't mind taking it to the shop every few months, because the repair bills are still less than a car payment. But what if it's snowing and I'm eight months pregnant and it breaks down? That doesn't sound like fun. Or what if I have a newborn and something happens? No, I think the time may be approaching when I'll have to bite that bullet.
On a very cool note, the Bean has been moving differently the past few hours. It's like he bundles himself up to one side and I feel all kinds of pressure. That part of my belly gets really tight and heavy, which I guess makes sense because he's just about 2 pounds now. But it's the weirdest feeling, how tight it gets. I can't imagine how this will feel when he's pounds!!

OB appointment
I had my OB appointment on Friday and all is very well. My uterus measured the 25 cm it's supposed to at this point. The Bean's heartrate was 138. And although I've been totally freaked out by my 20 pound weight gain, the doctor didn't even bring it up. Of course I did and asked her a zillion questions why it's jumped up so much over the past few weeks. But she told me the period between weeks 22 and 26 are when the baby has it's most significant growth and that most women have the biggest weight gains during this time. That hasn't really stopped me from freaking out, but she did point out that I still have 15 pounds to gain before I'm even out of the normal range for weight gain. A pound a week from this point forward doesn't sound unmanageable, until I think about Thanksgiving, Showerpalooza, Christmas, New Year and my birthday all being included in that time period. I can just envision all the great holiday photos with my fat head now!
I downed my glucose for the screening test without any projectile vomiting (poor Missy). I'll get the results of that test in about a week.
On a very happy note, the Bean has been incredibly active the last 24 hours. It's like popcorn popping in my belly and it makes me laugh and sometimes even cry at the wonderful feeling of my baby moving inside of me. Mike and I also primed the baby room yesterday and we'll paint it today. I'll take pictures when we get it all finished.
