On Mia’s birthday, I actually went in and woke her up. She decided to sleep in for her big day, but Daddy and I wanted to cuddle with her before getting ready for work. So we did. We all lay in bed together and Daddy and I told her what we were thinking this time last year. I sang her Happy Birthday and she wore her birthday outfit (yes, the tutu and leg warmers!) to daycare. Daddy took cookies in for her and her baby friends. Mommy had a busy day at work, but Daddy got Freddy to cover the store so he could pick Mia up early. That evening, we met Mamaw, Papaw, Matt and Kenny at Incredible Dave’s. Mia was mesmerized by all the games, toys, lights and sounds. She had a great time but was ready for bed by the time we left. At home I held her for a really long time. I thought back over this past year and all she's accomplished. I also thought about how our lives have changed because of her and how I do not even want to imagine my life without her. We just lay there looking into each other's eyes and when my tears dripped onto her, she patted my cheek.
On Friday we had another busy day. I used gift cards from Mia’s birthday to get a new car seat. This one faces forward and will hold her up to 65 pounds. I have been dreaming of the day when I can ditch the carrier. I’ve had trouble carrying her in that since she was about 6 months old – especially in heels!
On Saturday Mia and I went to visit Paul, Missy, Jake and Cara. Cara and Mia had their pictures taken together. Once again, Mia decided to save her smiles for after the photo shoot. She didn’t want to use up her daily quota for someone like a photographer! Mia actually did a little better in her tutu than in her regular outfit. I think she was starting to warm up to what was going on. But Cara was not having it! She had been all smiles until she put on the tutu, then she was over it! They put her next to Mia to get a shot of them together. Mia saw Cara crying and started to cry too. So we ended up with a shot of them crying together in their tutus!
After all the fun at the photo studio, we went to lunch, then shopped for a bit. We went back to Missy’s and let the girls play together in their newly remodeled basement. Mia decided to impress us with her walking skills. The girls loved pushing around the walker toys and banging blocks together and trying to break out of the area we had blocked off for them. Mia just loves her showboat cousin Cara, and is all smiles around her!
We came home yesterday and went to the store to see Daddy. Papaw, Uncle Charlie, Aunt Kelly, Danny, Logan and Beau were all there. After Mike closed the store we got some Cajun food. Mia tried my red beans and rice and loved it! She will eat almost anything these days, although we try to keep fried, buttery and spicy foods to a minimum. For dinner she had broccoli sprinkled with shredded cheese and loved the healthier fare just as much. She’s also doing well with her milk. I’m doing most of her bottles/cups with half formula and half whole milk. So far, so good!
Today is Mia’s 12 month check-up. She will get shots, which I’m sure will be a battle now that she’s gotten so squirmy. But I’m interested to see her height and weight. Since she’s been sick and also now that she’s so mobile, I feel like she’s not growing as quickly. We’ll see!
